The Gambia’s Independent Electoral Commission has met with the newly formed National Democratic Party to discuss its ongoing registration process. The commission advised the party not to publicly display its flag, logo or symbol until registration is formally completed. NDP leaders said they respect the guidance and remain committed to complying with the country’s electoral laws.

Battle for Buhari’s Northern Bloc Intensifies Ahead of 2027 (Business Day) 

Vanguard reports that the death of former president Muhammadu Buhari has created a political vacuum in Northern Nigeria, where his influence once secured strong support. Jonathan Will Contest, Return to Aso Rock as President in 2027 — Jerry Gana (Vanguard)

Former minister of information Jerry Gana has said that former president Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He told journalists after the party’s Niger State congress that Nigerians were calling for Jonathan’s return, arguing that his leadership compared favourably with subsequent administrations. The PDP congress also elected new state executives, with Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu emerging as chairman.

Guinea: Presidential Elections Set for 28 December (Africa News)

Guinea has announced that its first presidential election since the 2021 coup will be held on 28 December. The decision follows a referendum on 21 September that approved constitutional changes with 89% support, though the vote was boycotted by the opposition. The new constitution allows transitional leader General Mamady Doumbouya to stand as a candidate, despite earlier pledges not to run.

The People’s National Convention has commended former president John Mahama for what it described as impactful representation of Africa at a recent European Union meeting. At its National Executive Committee meeting in Sunyani, party leaders also discussed the need for greater unity among Nkrumaist parties to strengthen their chances in the 2028 elections. The gathering further marked the launch of the PNC’s new website, aimed at modernising its outreach and showcasing the party’s history and values.
