Gambia Launches UNDP Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions (The Voice)

The Gambia has officially launched the UNDP Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions, marking a major step toward embedding gender equality in governance and public service delivery. The initiative provides a framework to help institutions strengthen gender-responsive policies, enhance inclusivity, and improve accountability. It begins with three pilot institutions and aligns with global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the UNDP Strategic Plan 2026–2029.

Parliament Confirms Tragic Death of APC MP Ernest Dura Koroma (Sierraloaded)

Sierra Leone’s Parliament has announced the death of Honourable Ernest Dura Koroma, an All Peoples Congress MP representing Tonko Limba Chiefdom in Kambia District. He died in a road accident on Tuesday, 7 October 2025. The Opposition described him as a dedicated public servant whose passing is a great loss to his constituents and the nation.

NEW TAX LAWS IN NIGERIA

Nigerians to Feel Impact of New Tax Laws Beginning January 2026 – Oyedele (Business Day)

The chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has said that Nigerians will begin to benefit from the new tax laws in Nigeria starting in January 2026. He stated that about 98 per cent of the population will be exempted from paying the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax, as the reforms are designed to ease the burden on low-income earners. The new laws also reduce personal income tax to 25 per cent and cut corporate tax from 30 to 25 per cent to encourage business growth and formalisation.

‘I Want My Son Back, Dead or Alive’ – Mother of Missing Tanzanian Ex-Diplomat (BBC)

The mother of former Tanzanian diplomat Humphrey Polepole has appealed for his safe return following his reported abduction from his home in Dar es Salaam. Police say they are investigating the incident, which comes months after Polepole publicly criticised the government and was stripped of his diplomatic post.
